Wash the siding or brick on your home and keep the paint well maintained. Pay attention to the external color of your home. Popular colors come in and out of vogue. Find out what is popular at present and if need be, tone down the paint job.

Create visual interest in your curb appeal designs with a front yard garden to make the home look friendly and welcoming. If you aren't a gardener at heart, go to your local plant nursery and purchase large pre-planted containers to place near the entrance.

If you have a slightly elevated yard, consider adding a front retaining wall to give the yard a more finished look and add some architectural interest. Consider using stone over brick since natural materials are very popular right now. Some traditional homes will look more appealing with the addition of a fence. (Keeping an existing fence painted is an important part of improving curb appeal as well.)

Focus on small details. For instance, is your front door in good shape? Would it look better in a contrasting color? Does it need new hardware? Would the use of curb appeal products like wreaths or other decorative elements make the entrance look more inviting? What about new and updated light sconces on either side of the entrance?

Window treatments are visible from the outside of the home. Do you need new curtains? Do the window frames themselves need painting? Would window planter boxes add warmth to the façade of the home?

Pick up clutter in the yard like children's toys, tools, or cuttings from plants and shrubs. Keep the grass well mowed and the flower beds weeded. Take a good look at the landscaping. Remove or trim back overwhelming shrubbery.

Keep waste bins in the garage or to the side of the home out of sight. And if you have a messy garage, keep the door closed!

Improving curb appeal and maintaining your home curb appeal can only be successful if you are willing to put some thought and effort into the project. Remember that the improvements you make will come back to you as profits when your home sells for top dollar.

Creating curb appeal can be a fun task for every family member. If everyone pitches in and performs a small task such as washing the windows, removing litter or painting a fence, the job can be done in a day. Your home will look newer and better for it. And if you are thinking of selling your home, upgrading your curb appeal will make all the difference. Consider curb appeal designs and get started today!
