Factors to Consider Before Buying Wireless Door Chimes

Decide how many door chimes you will need. Do you want a chime by the front door and by the back entrance? Do you prefer wireless door chimes or the regular wired type of chime? What do you want the door chime to look like? Do you want a plain door chime or a novelty one? Do you want to be able to pick your own chime tunes? It can be fun to pick your own door chime sounds or even to create your own with recordable door chimes!

Remember that if you are a renter, it's a good idea to use a wireless door chime. The installation of the unit will not cause damage more significant that screw holes that can be easily caulked when you move. You can take the wireless chime with you to your new home and install it in a matter of minutes. There's no reason why even apartment dwellers cannot enjoy the convenience of a "door bell" without the fuss of getting permission to install a wired unit.

How to Install the Door Chime

With wireless units installation my require nothing more than screwing the switch in place by the front door. For wired chimes, you will need to connect your wires to the nearest existing wire installation. It is often possible to connect off a nearby electrical socket. (Be sure you turn the breaker off before you begin to work.) Once you have power to the switch, mount it near the door. Find a place inside the house near a power source to connect the speaker unit. Follow the instructions closely and use extreme caution when working around electricity. Unless you are completely comfortable working with wiring, you may need to seek the help of a professional, especially if the installation of your door chime will require you to thread wires through walls. It isn't so much that the work is difficult as that you may not have access to the specialized tools that allow such tasks to be completed quickly and easily.

Door entry chimes are easy to install - at time needing nothing more than a screwdriver -- and every home needs one. The days when every home had the same chime the sounded exactly the same way are long gone. There's no reason not to have fun when buying and installing your new door chime. Wireless door chimes are the easiest to install and you can even pick your own chime tunes or record something unique on your own.
